Ocean Cliffs

Ocean Cliffs (Pt. Lobos State Park)

Oil on Canvas
24″ x 30″ Unframed
27″ x 33″ With Frame

There are so many interesting rocky cliffs and outcroppings from Lobos, Big Sur, to Carmel Bay. “Let me at them!”

Waves Near Carmel Shore

Waves Near Carmel Shore

Oil on Canvas
18″ x 24″

If you love crashing waves as I do, this one’s for you. Between the water sptray and transparency of the wave as it curls is poetry for the painter.

Winter Runoff

Winter Runoff

Oil on Canvas
16″ x 20″

I love rivers and streams as much as the sea. I tried to capture the power of the water as it surges down the river bed after a storm.

Butterfly House

Butterfly House on Scenic Road, Carmel Point

Oil on Canvas
16″ x 12″

The Butterfly House on Scenic Road in Carmel is historic. It was designed by Frank Wynkoop in 1951. I actually painted this because of the cliffs and shore, realizing later of its historic fame.

Cypress Point

Cypress Point

Oil on Illustration Board (Archival)
9.5″ x 20″

I painted a large version of Cypress Point. This was my first oil study of this landmark. I usually pay little notice to these after I paint the large version. But this one is rare in that it has great energy and though small, it’s really charming. I hope you like it.

Cliffs at Carmel

Cliffs at Carmel

16″ x 20″ Oil on Panel

Most artists go to a beautiful beach and paint sand and surf. I confess I was struck by the light and shadows on the cliffs just below Pebble Beach Golf Course.

The challenge was to render the craggy rocks, overgrown tendrils, and washed-up seaweed from our winter storms. I hope you enjoy viewing as much as I enjoyed painting the scene.
